New format, sun shining and a buzz of anticipation
Adopting an afternoon format for the 2014 event, comprising some 17 teams. Organisers and onlookers arrived at Riversdale Golf Club mid afternoon for light refreshments in anticipation of the annual Tee Up For Kids Charity Golf Day. General feedback was the new afternoon format was much better as it allowed time in the morning to deal with work commitments to ensure there were little or no distractions from the golf. The teams were briefed and at 1:15pm the event got underway with sunny conditions as everyone teed off in their quest to win the event.
Once underway the event was treated to warm sunny conditions, an unusual feeling from past events where rain had been often present. Late afternoon it was quite warm, some finding it a challenge but they were grateful with several visits from the drinks cart. With warm, dry conditions there was some terrific golf played throughout the afternoon, the course was in excellent condition and again everyone had an enjoyable event.
In the early evening everyone convened to the clubhouse and enjoyed a cold drink with a BBQ dinner, and networked accordingly. Bernie Geary, Commissioner for Children and Young People in Victoria addressed those present about the need to support children in foster and residential care. Highlighting the great work Tee Up For Kids is doing in cooperation with the Mirabel Foundation (www.Miabelfoundation.org.au), particularly the financial support towards the Mirabel Education Programs which has been made possible by this event and the generosity of those present on the day. Bernie stayed on as the auctioneer and with his passion successfully auctioned off a number of items.
The auction was followed with the presentation to the winning teams:
F5 Networks (Ray Gibson)
Fraser Jefferies Finance (Fraser Jeffery)
Hsquared Television Group 1 (Harry Hart)
Followed by individual presentations for:
Nearest The Pin (3rd Hole) – Mike Sakalas
Nearest The Pin (14th Hole) – Cory Verstanoig
Nearest The Pin (17th Hole) – Ray Gibson
Longest Drive – David Rees.
Again the day was a great success raising the significant sum, close to $18,000 which was a fantastic effort. This money will be used in cooperation with the Mirabel Foundation (www.mirabelfoundation.org.au) to continue to provide support through Educational Programs to assist children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parent illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care).
We are extremely grateful to all the teams who took part, Bernie Geary for his time and support, and especially those who provided auction items and gave up there time to ensure the day was a success, a big thank you.
